Our Bald Eagle is a Mom! (Sort of)

After 26 years, our Bald Eagle has laid 2 eggs just in time for Mother’s Day. About a week ago we noticed she had dug out a protected area and laid a white, brown-speckled egg. Using the bundle of straw and twigs provided by Trailside staff she constructed a small nest, and as our director predicted, she laid a second egg this past weekend. Although the eggs are more than likely unfertile because of the lack of contact with any male bald eagles (that we know of), we are allowing her to utilize her never before used motherly instincts. The eggs themselves are well protected, but visitors can see her sitting on her nest, where she spends most of her day. Don’t be surprised if she squacks at you as she has been very outspoken lately!
