We all love to spend time in our backyards during these end of summer days. However, as development increases, wild animals like bear and coyote have become more accustomed to living among humans, and grow ever-more comfortable entering our properties in search of food. Encounters with wild animals can be minimized by practicing preventative habits. Keeping garbage and pet food secure, and preferably indoors will keep these animals away from your home. Try to only feed birds from December to April, during the rest of the year you may be attracting more than just birds. If we all do our part, animal encounters can be limited and we can all share our natural world peacefully. Be sure to visit Trailside in order to see these animals up close and learn more about the critters that we share our backyards with!
