TITLE (Permanent) – Park Worker 3, SG-09 (Maintenance & Grounds Staff)
SALARY GRADE/HIRING RANGE: $35,344 – 43,443 + $3,026 Rockland County location pay

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the general supervision of higher level personnel, the selected candidate will be involved in every aspect of Trailside’s maintenance, including its facilities in Harriman State Park. Performs routine maintenance using a variety of power-driven mechanical equipment including trucks, mowers, snow blowers, power saws, backpack blowers & line trimmers. Performs building & grounds maintenance including trash & recycling collection, daily cleaning of restrooms & museums, upkeep including painting, trail repairs, basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry & other repairs. Assigns, supervises, reviews, trains & evaluates work of lower level maintenance employees. Employee assists with facility operations, including daily opening & closing of buildings & gates, crowd management during closing procedures, & set up & breakdown for special events. During winter months, employee removes snow by operating snow blowers/salter & shoveling. Incumbent interacts with the public by answering their questions. Assists in emergency situations by applying emergency procedures & practices, assisting & directing staff & working with patrons to minimize potential problems. Assists in other areas of operations as needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Two years experience in the operation and/or maintenance of a Park, Historic Site or Recreational Facility; OR two years experience as a trades assistant under the supervision of a skilled tradesperson; OR completion of an appropriate two year technical/trades school course.
- Must have possess & maintain a valid New York State Driver’s License as a term & condition of employment.
- Must be physically able to perform medium to heavy physical labor, including ability lift & move 80 lbs.
- Must be able to supervise others, communicate orally & in writing, & read & comprehend written materials.
- Must be able to communicate well orally with park patrons, be available to work on weekends & holidays.
- Must possess & maintain as a term and condition of employment a valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License or obtain one within the probationary period.
