Trailside Museums and  Zoo houses mammals that are native to New York State, such as the Eastern Coyote (Canis latrans), Beaver (Castor canadensis), Red Fox (Vulpes vlupes), Porcupine (Erethizon dorsatum), Opossum (Didelphis virginiana), Black Bears (Ursus americanus) and Woodchuck (Marmota monax)
The animals arrived at Trailside because they were either permanently injured or orphaned and would not be able to survive in the wild. Their presence here offers visitors the opportunity to see them up close and learn about the importance of conserving their natural habitat.
